1 – Old Operating Theatre, London Bridge – Entry price £6.50
Not one for the faint hearted, the Old Operating Theatre is all about pain, blood, guts and gore! Used in the days before anaesthetics the exhibitions on display will explain in great detail how horrific operations used to be, the creepy atmosphere adding shivers down your spine as you soak up the sights and sounds of medical torture.
2 – Geffrye Museum, Hackney – Entry price FREE
Fancy a bit of time travelling? Skip between centuries in seconds with 11 elaborately decorated period rooms in the heart of Hackney.
3 – Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising, Notting Hil – Entry price £7.50
For a great trip down memory lane the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising is a brilliant place to visit as you explore the history of family favourites such as Coca-Cola and Heinz as well as packing that dates back as far as the 1800’s!
4 – Cartoon Museum, Holborn – Entry price £7.00
Release your inner child at Holborn’s Cartoon Museum, just a stone’s throw from the British Museum each exhibition explores British cartoon and comic art with collections dating back to the 18th century. See if you can spot the early Billy Whizz and Bash Street Kids!
5 – Fashion and Textile Museum, Bermondse – Entry price £8.80
From materials and outfits to history and fashion exhibitions the Fashion and Textile Museum features designs from fresh young designers as well as timeless classics and everything in between. This museum is a must for anyone who loves dressing up!
6 – Churchill War Rooms, Westminster – Entry price £18
Although the Churchill War Rooms is a pricier option, it’s a real WW2 bunker bursting at the seams with original film footage, memorabilia, photos, recordings and much, much more.
7 – Grant Museum of Zoology, Bloomsbur – Entry price FREE
Another weird and slightly gross museum is the Grant Museum of Zoology, housing various animal oddities preserved in test tubes and glass vials so you see the specimens up, close and very personal!
8 – Hunterian Museum, Holborn – Entry price FREE
Similar to the Grant Museum of Zoology, the Hunterian Museum is full of weird and wonderful pieces such as a preserved monkey’s head, Churchill’s dentures and human diseases dissected and on display. Not one for the faint hearted, diseased human remains feature highly!
9 – Fan Museum, Greenwic – Entry price £4.00
Although it doesn’t sound very exciting, the Fan Museum houses a collection of over 4,000 hand fans and is the only collection of its kind in the world. Impressive.
10 – The Magic Circle Museum, Euston – Entry price varies
Unfortunately the Magic Circle Museum has to be booked in advance but it’s home to some of the most amazing magic shows, tours and exhibitions in the business that will blow you mind.
